What we collect
You may use a guest account or create an account using an email address, password, and display name. We store the dream text you choose to save, the AI-generated reflection, your selected reflection style, dates, and subscription status so the journal works across sessions and devices.
How dream analysis works
Dream Journal collects dream text directly from what you type in the dream-entry field. Before every submission, a notice beneath Save and analyze explains that the dream will be sent to Dream Journal AI. When you tap that button, Dream Journal sends your dream text—including any people, places, events, emotions, or other personal details you entered—after common email-address, phone-number, Social Security number, and payment-card-like patterns are redacted. It also sends your selected analysis style and app language. OpenAI, a third-party AI service, processes that information only to generate the dream reflection you requested.
Dream Journal does not send OpenAI your email, username, Dream Journal account ID, Firebase sign-in token, or payment details. You can avoid sending dream information for analysis by leaving the entry screen without tapping Save and analyze.
Service providers
- Google Firebase provides authentication, database storage, and the secure server used by the app.
- OpenAI processes the dream text, selected analysis style, and app language described above only after you tap Save and analyze, in order to produce the requested reflection.
- Google Play Billing or Apple processes subscription purchases depending on the platform. Dream Journal does not receive or store complete payment-card details.
Sharing and sale of data
We do not sell your personal information or dream content. Data is shared only with the service providers needed to operate the app, comply with law, prevent abuse, or protect the service.
We require service providers, including OpenAI, to process information only for the services they provide to us and to protect it with privacy and security safeguards that are the same as or equivalent to the protections described in this policy. We do not permit OpenAI to use private dreams for advertising.
Retention and deletion
Saved dreams remain in your account until you delete them. You can delete an individual dream from the journal or use Delete account in Settings to permanently remove the account, saved dreams, analyses, and the app's subscription record. Payment processors may retain transaction records as required by law and their own policies.
Security and children
We use authenticated access and encrypted network connections. No system can guarantee absolute security. Dream Journal is intended for a general audience and is not directed to children under 13.
